The Brandywine Flag poster captures a pivotal moment in American history, representing the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who fought for independence during the Revolutionary War.

Initially borne by Captain Robert Wilson's company within the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment, the Brandywine flag derives its name from its deployment at the Battle of Brandywine on September 11, 1777. 

Its red backdrop showcases a white and red American flag image in the canton. Some accounts suggest its possible earlier use at the Battle of Cooch's Bridge in Delaware on September 3, 1777. 

Captain Wilson potentially carried it through other pivotal engagements like the Battle of Paoli on September 21 and the Battle of Germantown on October 4. 

While it may have been among the first American flags to incorporate stars and stripes, it held its place as a militia company's standard rather than that of Washington's army. 

The Flag Resolution of 1777 prescribed the United States flag's official design with 13 stripes and stars, though the specific star arrangement varied. 

The Brandywine Flag's canton showcases a 4-5-4 star layout reminiscent of a Hopkinson-style United States flag.
